The Story of Raven Moon Yaks

Drew the Best Bull gets dirty in the spring

Our Story

Noah and Steph began their yak journey in 2017, raising yaks alongside their sheep, chickens, and Highland cows in the Mission Valley of Montana. Yaks are smaller than cattle, eat less, and are less damaging to the land, plus they’re unusual in North America. One can have four different products or services with yak, which is unusual in livestock — milk, meat, fiber, and carrying large loads.

When their growing family moved to the Adirondacks of New York, they decided to focus on raising calm, friendly yak calves that are easy to handle. Drew the Best Bull arrived in 2019 to lead his ladies with his charming swagger and unshakably calm demeanor. We are able to do what we do at Raven Moon Yaks because he is so special, and his temperament is a trait he passes on to his calves.

Raven Moon Yaks is currently home to 10 adult yaks and their calves on 80 acres, all within view of stunning Lake Champlain.
